The Authors
Richard Raubolt, PhD, ABBP, is a licensed clinical psychologist and a board-certified psychoanalyst who has been in independent practice for more than 40 years. He was the founding editor of the online journal Otherwise. He served on the board of the International Forum for Psychoanalytic Education for 10 years, and was elected president of the Michigan Group Psychotherapy Society. He has provided supervision for the Chinese-American Psychoanalytic Alliance, the Portuguese Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Aquinas College, and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He is the author of two previous books and more than 30 professional papers, and he has produced five films, three of which were nominated for awards given by the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
Kirk L. Brink, PhD, began working as a staff psychologist at Pine Rest Mental Health Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1975 and became a licensed clinical psychologist in 1980, at which time he began his private practice. Over the last 45 years he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Trinity Christian College, Hope College, Aquinas College, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and the Institute for Individual and Group Psychotherapy (IIGP) while maintaining an active practice of individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy, along with supervision of other therapists. He has also consulted with mental health agencies, businesses, and regional hospitals. He has been a board member of the Michigan Group Psychotherapy Society and IIGP for the last 20 years.
Together, the authors supervised their first group of psychotherapists 30 years ago. They co-led their first TGC group three years ago, and in April 2021 they began co-leading their fourth TGC group. Opening Hearts, Opening Minds is their first co-authored book.
